A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseini

One Sentence Summary:
A drama set in post-USSR-collapse Kabul follows the lives of two women and the impossible decisions they are forced to make.
Review:
A well written, descriptive look at the culture of Afganistan this novel created relatable characters in un-relatable circumstances. This story will make you laugh, cry and be unreasonable pissed off. The subject of this novel is hard to take in for those of us who were raised with "western values", but it does give us a look at an opposing culture in a digestible (though horrible) way. This is the story of an unlikely friendship between two women and it is well worth reading. I recommend this novel to anyone who wants to read something that makes them think.
8/10
Memorable quotes:
"Of all the hardships a person had to face, none was more punishing than the simple act of waiting."
